Goal of Master of Education in Reading
The goal of Black Hills State University’s Master of Education in Reading (M.Ed.) is to facilitate professional growth while preparing candidates to assume leadership roles as K-12 reading specialists and literacy coaches. Designed for working professionals, this online program works on a theory-to-practice model that encourages candidates to begin adapting strategies and developing research questions to suit their own purposes.
State and National Standards
The MEd addresses all International Reading Association standards for reading specialists and literacy coaches and meets South Dakota’s and Wyoming’s standards to prepare reading specialists.
Program Design
The M.Ed. uses a cohort structure that establishes a core of learning relationships and develops faculty and student collaboration. The Program of Study is entirely online except for the clinical practice experience, which candidates complete in their home locations during the last full semester of study. The 35-credit program is designed to be completed in two years. The M.Ed. uses a cohort structure that establishes a core of learning relationships and develops faculty and student collaboration.
