Research Minor - Sociology

Students who have completed Sociology 100 and 150 (Introduction to Sociology and Social Problems), Math 102 (College Algebra) with an average grade point of 3.0 in these classes and who have permission from their faculty mentor will be admitted into the research minor.

Note - Research


The student will pick a faculty mentor based on research interests, and the mentor and student together will choose two other faculty to serve on the student’s committee. An oral presentation of the research results is required. The faculty mentor will determine the appropriate seminar, colloquium, symposium, or conference for the student’s oral presentation.

Restricted Electives


  • Statistics - 6 semester hours
  • Supportive Electives - 6 semester hours
    Six semester hours of supportive courses not in the major, but courses selected by the committee. These courses are already in place.
