Students who have completed the Entrance Level Core for the Mathematics Major with an average grade point of 3.0 and who have permission from their faculty mentor will be admitted into the Research minor. A student who does not pursue a Mathematics major but wishes to obtain a minor in research with a mathematics emphasis must complete the Professional Core of the Mathematics major.

Note - Research

Every year, faculty who are interested in mentoring a student in research will present research or discuss the areas of research in which they plan to mentor at a seminar. The student will pick a faculty mentor based on research interests, and the mentor and student together will choose two other faculty to serve on the student’s committee. The committee will determine the elective courses for the minor.

Note

Additional sequences must have the approval of the student’s research committee and the Mathematics Department Chair. If an additional supportive course is necessary to obtain 12 hours, the committee shall select the course.
