Research Minor - Biology

Students who have completed Biology 150, 151, 151L, 153, 153L (Principles of Biology, General Biology I and II with laboratories), MATH 102/102L (College Algebra and Lab), and one year of chemistry with an average grade point of 3.0 in these classes and who have permission from their faculty mentor will be admitted into the research minor.

Note - Research

Every year, faculty who are interested in mentoring a student in research will present research or discuss the areas of research in which they plan to mentor at a seminar. The student will pick a faculty mentor based on research interests, and the mentor and student together will choose two other faculty to serve on the student’s committee. The committee will determine the elective courses for the minor.

Program Requirements

RESR 498 - Undergraduate Research/Scholarship
Research in Biology
No more than three semester hours per semester. Work will be entirely with the faculty mentor.
MCOM 488 - Research Communication
To include advanced desktop publishing, oral communication, word processing & general photography techniques.

Restricted Electives

Statistics - 6 semester hours

Any two courses for which the student has the prerequisites.

MATH 483 - Regression and Analysis
MATH 484 - Applied Multivariate Analysis
or BIOL 328
MATH 487 - Design of Experiments
