Students enrolled in the American Indian Studies major will gain knowledge and a basic understanding of the history and culture of Native Americans, with special emphasis on the Tribes of South Dakota. Individuals will be exposed to the Lakota language to develop a greater understanding of the Lakota culture. Students must become knowledgeable about issues which concern Native Americans such as relationships with the state and federal governments, economic issues, and cultural education. (Subject prefixes listed in parentheses are cross-listed courses.)

Required Core - 37 semester hours
Take six courses from the following:
18 semester hours Gen Ed Requirements - 31-34 semester hours
- MATH Gen Ed - Mathematics - 3 semester hours
- Gen Ed - Social Science - 6 semester hours
- Gen Ed - Arts & Humanities - 3-6 semester hours
- Gen Ed - Natural Science & Lab - 8 semester hours
Note
A minor is required with this major plus electives to total 128 hours, of which 36 hours must be 300-400 level courses. |
