Research Minor - Environmental Physical Science

Students, who have completed GEOL 201/L, GEOL 203/L, CHEM 112/L, CHEM 114/L or PHYS 211/L, PHYS 213/L, MATH 102, MATH 123/L And one of the following courses: GEOL 340, GEOL 350, GEOL 360, GEOL 370 with a grade point of 3.0 and have permission from their faculty, may be admitted into the research minor. Students meeting the 3.0 grade point standard for the entry-level courses may then enter the minor with permission from their faculty mentor.

Note - Research


Every year, faculty who are interested in mentoring a student in research will present research or discuss the areas of research in which they plan to mentor at a seminar. The student will pick a faculty mentor based on research interests, and the mentor and student together will choose two other faculty to serve on the student’s committee. The committee will determine the elective courses for the minor.

Program Requirements


Supportive Electives - 6 semester hours


Electives include any upper-division course in Math, Physics, Chemistry, Geology, or Biology approved by the faculty mentor.

Students must also present their research in a public forum. This could include presentation of a seminar, oral or poster presentation at a research meeting, publication of research, or any other forum approved by the student’s research committee.
