Crisis Leadership and Emergency Management

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Programs

The Graduate Certificate in Crisis Leadership and Emergency Management (CLEM) is designed to bridge academic rigor and best practices in order to develop individuals who can lead their organizations through crises using an all-hazards approach to managing critical incidents while preserving and valuing its human capital.

Today’s leaders are faced with many risks and threats to the safety and sustainability of their organizations and employees from such hazards as terrorism, transportation disasters, manmade and natural catastrophes, and workplace/schoolhouse violence events.  These critical incidents require leaders to direct action and make decisions during life-and-death situations and usually in the absence of critical information.  Many programs focus on responding to these incidents; however, CLEM will focus not only on response but also prediction, prevention, mitigation, preparedness, and post-response (recovery) aspects of leading in crises.
