This program is offered through the College of Education.

No Child Left Behind 2002 - As a result of this law, K-12 Paraprofessionals (teacher aides/assistants) must now have specific qualifications. Those paraprofessionals hired after the enactment of this law whose positions are funded by Title I must meet one of the following requirements:

   Complete at least two years of post-secondary study
  - Obtain an associate’s (or higher) degree
  - Meet a rigorous standard of quality and demonstrate through a formal state or local academic assessment, knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing and mathematics; or knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness, as appropriate.

Paraprofessionals hired before the date of enactment and whose positions are funded by Title I must meet one of the requirements above no later than 4 years after the date of enactment.

This program is offered through the College of Education. The paraprofessional courses in this program require a grade of “C” or better. Electives could include courses in art, early childhood, education, English, foreign language, language arts, mathematics, music, psychology, science, sociology, special education, and social science.
